What it is
Soft-touch, sometimes sold as suede or velvet laminate, is a matte plastic film bonded over a printed sheet. Its microtextured surface feels dry, warm, and slightly velvety instead of slick. It also adds tear and scuff resistance, so it is common on premium boxes, book covers, menus, and thick business cards.
Reach for it when touch is part of the first impression. Dark solids make the dead-matte surface especially obvious, and clear spot UV or foil on top can create a strong contrast between soft, glossy, and metallic areas.
Gotcha: the finish people love to touch can record every oily thumb. Some films resist fingerprints better than others, but black and navy still deserve a handled sample before approval. The film can also change color density and reject later foil, glue, or varnish unless that exact finishing combination has been tested.
