What it is

A bundle sells several SKUs as one purchasable unit at one price, usually below the sum of the parts. Two ways to build it, and the choice is an inventory decision, not a marketing one. A fixed bundle SKU is a real product with its own barcode and its own stock, assembled in the warehouse, and selling one decrements the bundle SKU only. A virtual bundle is a rule: the shopper buys one thing, the order contains the child SKUs, and each child's stock decrements separately at sale.

Reach for bundles to lift average order value without a discount code, to move slow stock attached to a fast seller, and to remove decisions for gift and beginner shoppers ('the starter kit') who do not know which three items they need.

Gotcha: the inventory math. A properly assembled fixed bundle has its own stock and is safe, because those units left the component pool when someone boxed them. The double-count appears when the same physical units are exposed twice, sold both as bundle stock and as component stock, which is what happens when a merchant 'creates' a bundle SKU by typing a quantity in rather than assembling anything. A virtual bundle has the opposite job: it must go out of stock the moment any child does, which surprises merchants who only watch the headline product. Decide the returns policy before launch too: someone will want to send back one item from a three-item bundle, and someone has to decide what that refunds.

Add product bundles to my store. Model a Bundle as a purchasable product holding child SKUs with quantities, plus a pricing mode of either fixed bundle price or percentage off the combined component price. Compute and display the savings ('Buy together and save $24'). Treat stock virtually: available bundle quantity equals the minimum across children after dividing each child's stock by its required quantity, so the bundle sells out when any component does, and decrement each child on purchase. On the bundle page, list every included item with a thumbnail and a link to its own page, show component price versus bundle price side by side, and expose the bundle in the order as one line with indented child lines so fulfillment can pick it.
