What it is

BOPIS means buy online, pick up in store; click-and-collect is the same idea. The customer pays online, chooses a location with stock, and collects the packed order there instead of having it shipped. Curbside pickup is a close variant where staff bring the order outside, the shape Target Drive Up and Walmart curbside pushed into ordinary use in 2020.

Reach for it when stores already hold sellable inventory and customers value speed or want to avoid shipping fees. It needs location-level availability, a pickup selector in checkout, a staff picking queue, and separate messages for order received, ready for pickup, and collected.

Gotcha: 'in stock' does not mean 'ready now.' Another shopper can buy the last unit, staff need time to find and pack it, and store hours limit collection. Reserve stock when the order is accepted, promise a pickup window only after store rules are checked, and define when uncollected orders are canceled and returned to stock.

Ask AI for it

Add BOPIS to this store with a pickup-location picker built from your own store records, ranked by distance using the Google Maps Platform Geocoding API, and inventory tracked per store. On the product page and checkout, show only pickup locations that can supply every line item, their opening hours, distance, and the earliest honest pickup window. When payment is accepted, reserve stock atomically at the selected location and create a staff pick task with received, picking, ready, collected, canceled, and expired states. Send a ready-for-pickup message with the store address and order code, require staff confirmation before marking it collected, release expired reservations, and keep pickup orders out of shipping-rate calculation.
