What it is
A quote is a time-limited offer to do a defined piece of work for a stated price. It belongs after enough discovery to know what is included. The price stays fixed only while the scope, assumptions, quantities, and client responsibilities written into the quote stay fixed too.
Reach for a quote when the buyer needs a firm number they can approve, not a planning range. UK consumer guidance draws the line the same way builders and plumbers do: a quote is a fixed price the trader is expected to honour, an estimate is a best guess that can move. Clients carry that expectation into creative work whether or not you meant it. List the work as line items, name what is excluded, state whether tax and expenses are included, give the offer an expiry date, and explain how acceptance happens. Larger engagements usually turn the accepted quote into a service agreement or SOW.
Gotcha: a one-line quote for 'website design' fixes the price without fixing the job. That is not confidence, it is an unlimited scope sold for one number. If the work is still uncertain, send an estimate or price a discovery phase instead.

Create a client-ready fixed quote for the scope below. Break the work into priced line items, state the total and currency, list assumptions and exclusions, identify client-supplied inputs, state whether tax and approved expenses are included, set an acceptance deadline, and explain that out-of-scope work requires a change order. Then map the result to the Stripe Quotes API fields `line_items` and `expires_at`. Do not use ranges or hide contingency in an unlabeled line.
