What it is

Motion blur stretches pixels along a direction so a still image implies movement during an exposure. A simple directional blur uses one angle and distance across a layer; a renderer's velocity blur varies the streak by how each object or pixel actually moved.

Reach for it behind a speeding vehicle, across a fast transition, or on background detail that should rush past the subject. Match the streak angle to the movement and let faster areas travel farther.

Gotcha: uniform blur on the whole frame often reads as camera shake or bad focus. Mask the subject when it needs to stay legible, leave a clear leading edge when possible, and extend the layer so the filter does not clip at the frame boundary.
