What it is

A zero-click search ends on the results page because the searcher gets what they need there. A featured snippet can answer a definition, a local pack can supply directions and a phone number, and an AI Overview can summarize several pages. The publisher earns an impression or citation, but no visit. Rand Fishkin's SparkToro studies put the phrase into circulation, along with the argument about what the number really proves.

Reach for the idea when search visibility rises while organic sessions do not, or when the desired action can happen inside Google. Local businesses may value calls and direction requests from the local pack; publishers may value a visible citation or branded recall. If the goal is a site visit, answer the immediate question clearly and give the reader a useful next step the result page cannot complete.

Gotcha: a zero-click impression is neither automatically a win nor a theft. It depends on the job. Chasing a featured snippet for a simple fact can reduce clicks, while hiding every useful sentence can cost visibility without creating demand. Measure Search Console clicks beside calls, bookings, branded searches, and revenue instead of using rankings alone.

Ask AI for it

Rewrite this page for useful zero-click visibility without giving away the whole journey. Put a direct 40 to 55 word answer below the relevant H2 so Google can use it as a featured snippet, then follow it with an original comparison, calculator, dataset, example, or workflow that requires the page. Protect any text that must not appear in snippets with the HTML data-nosnippet attribute, but do not add nosnippet or max-snippet robots directives site-wide. Define a measurement plan using the Google Search Console Performance report, GA4 organic sessions, branded queries, and on-site conversions, and state which outcome would count as a win.
