Search ranking
Where a page appears in unpaid results for a specific query. It changes by place, device, time, and which search features crowd the page.

What it is
Search ranking is a page's position in the organic results for one query at one moment. There is no single rank for a page. Results can change with location, language, device, freshness, and the result features on the page, so 'we rank fifth' is incomplete without the query and measurement setup.
Reach for ranking when tracking whether a page is becoming more visible for the searches it was built to answer. Google Search Console reports average position across impressions; a rank tracker takes repeat snapshots from chosen locations. Pair either number with impressions, clicks, and click-through rate.
Gotcha: position is not visibility. The first organic link can sit below ads, an AI Overview, a map pack, and videos. An average can also hide a page ranking second in one country and twentieth in another. Segment before celebrating or panicking.
Ask AI for it
Measure search ranking for these query and URL pairs with Google Search Console's average position metric and a daily rank tracker fixed to the requested country, language, device, and city. Segment branded from non-branded queries, record SERP features such as AI Overviews and local packs, and report median position, visibility, impressions, clicks, and click-through rate. Flag only sustained seven-day changes, then identify the page, intent, or technical change most likely connected to each movement.
