What it is

A value proposition answers the question a stranger asks silently in the first three seconds: why this, for me, instead of what I do now? Three parts, all required: the audience, the outcome, and the edge over the alternative they would otherwise pick (often a spreadsheet, or nothing).

Useful shapes: 'We help [audience] [get outcome] without [usual pain]', or Geoffrey Moore's positioning template, 'For [audience] who [need], [product] is a [category] that [benefit], unlike [alternative]'. Test the result by asking whether a competitor could paste it onto their own site. If they could, it says nothing. 'The all-in-one platform for modern teams' is placeholder text, not a value proposition.

Gotcha: this is not a tagline. A tagline is mood and memory ('Just do it'). A value proposition is information, and it belongs in the page headline and subhead, in the ad, and in the first line of the cold email. Named alternatives and real numbers beat adjectives every time.

Ask AI for it

Write the value proposition for [product]. Fill this shape first: for [specific audience] who [problem], [product] is the [category] that [concrete outcome], unlike [named alternative]. Then turn it into a page hero: an 8 to 12 word headline stating the outcome, a subhead naming the audience and how it works, and three benefit bullets drawn only from the verified facts in [product evidence]. Never invent numbers, customer outcomes, or differentiators: where the supporting fact is missing, write an [evidence needed] placeholder instead. Give me three variants at different levels of boldness, and delete any adjective a competitor could also claim.
