What it is

A marketing channel is a route used to reach prospective customers. Paid search, organic search, email, retail partners, events, and direct mail are channels. A channel carries the message; a campaign is the coordinated push, and a tactic is the specific move made inside it.

Choose channels by how the audience discovers, evaluates, and buys the offer. Search can catch existing demand, while a webinar can explain an unfamiliar product and email can continue the conversation. Give each channel a job and a metric instead of copying the same post everywhere.

Gotcha: the last click rarely tells the whole story. A buyer may hear a podcast, search the brand, read three emails, then arrive through a paid ad. GA4 splits credit with a data-driven model by default, while Meta and Google Ads each report the conversions they touched inside their own attribution windows, so the three reports will not add up. Keep channel costs and tracking definitions consistent before comparing them.

Build a marketing-channel plan for [offer], [audience], [budget], and [sales cycle]. Score paid search, organic search, email, partnerships, events, and paid social from 1 to 5 on audience access, intent, speed, cost, measurability, and fit with the available assets. Pick no more than three channels, assign each one a distinct job in the funnel, and state the weekly experiment, budget, owner, leading metric, conversion metric, and kill criterion. Add a Google Analytics 4 UTM naming table using `utm_source`, `utm_medium`, and `utm_campaign`, with lowercase values and one canonical medium per channel.
