Ad fatigue

The same ad shown to the same people until it stops working: clicks drop, costs climb, and the creative is what died, not the offer.

What it is

Ad fatigue is what happens when the same audience sees the same creative too many times: click-through rate slides, cost per click and cost per result climb, and the ad that printed money in week one quietly stops. The offer did not break. The picture did.

The tell is frequency, the average number of times one person saw the ad. On a small retargeting pool it climbs fast. There is no universal danger number: the point where CTR starts sliding moves with the platform, the audience size, the format, the offer, and how memorable the creative is, so read your own account's history instead of a blog post's '3 to 4 a week'. Two fixes exist: widen the audience so fresh people enter, or ship new creative. New creative is the more reliable one, and you do not need a new concept, just new hooks, new opening frames, new first lines on the same winning angle.

Gotcha: people blame the algorithm, the targeting, or 'the account broke' and start rebuilding campaigns, which throws away learning for nothing. Check frequency and creative age first. Flat impressions with collapsing CTR is the classic fingerprint, but it is a hint, not a verdict: a shift in audience or placement mix, a new competitor bidding into your slot, seasonality, or a swapped-in weaker creative all draw the same chart. Look at what else changed in the same window before you call it.

Ask AI for it

Generate 8 fresh creative variants to reset ad fatigue on this winning ad. Keep the offer, the audience, and the CTA identical. Vary only the hook: rewrite the first line and opening visual as a question, a bold claim, a customer quote, a myth-bust, a before/after, a numbered list, a POV shot, and a plain-text screenshot look. For each variant give me the headline, the primary text, and one sentence describing the first frame. Label the angle each one uses so I can test hooks, not noise.
