What it is
A supergraphic is an identity element blown up until it dominates the surface it sits on. Most often it is one shape lifted from the mark (an arc, a diagonal, the counter of a letter) enlarged far past logo scale and cropped by the frame, but it does not have to come from the logo at all: oversized typography, a photographic detail, an element of the brand pattern, or a purpose-drawn device that appears nowhere else all qualify. Think of a Nike swoosh filling a billboard, or an airport wall where a single curve carries the brand and the logo is a small line in the corner. It brands a surface without repeating the logo on it.
It is the loud cousin of the brand pattern: a pattern tiles small and repeats, a supergraphic is one device at giant scale that often bleeds off two edges. Reach for it on slide backgrounds, event backdrops, packaging, storefronts, and 16:9 hero sections, anywhere you need the surface to feel owned rather than decorated.
When the device is a crop of the mark, the design test is crop survival: if the shape only reads when you can see all of it, you have made a second logo, not a supergraphic. Two practical gotchas. Text on top goes unreadable fast, so plan a scrim, a tint, or a dedicated quiet zone. And never let the supergraphic and the full logo fight in the same frame; one of them has to go small and get out of the way.

Design a supergraphic system for [brand] built from [SOURCE ELEMENT: a shape in the mark, a letterform, a pattern element, or a photo detail]. Isolate that single element, scale it to roughly 3x the canvas so only a fragment is visible, and bleed it off two edges. Fill it flat in the primary brand color on the secondary background, no gradients, no drop shadow, no outline. Keep the lower-left third clear as a quiet zone for text and place the wordmark small in the opposite corner.
