A logo construction grid is the geometric scaffold used to explain or rebuild a mark: baselines, axes, repeated radii, angles, and a shared unit for proportions. It exposes the few measurements that organize the drawing, rather than covering every curve with decorative circles after the fact.
Reach for one when a mark must be redrawn across files, fabricated at architectural scale, or documented so future variants inherit the same logic. A useful grid identifies actual control points and dimensions from the master artwork and makes the final silhouette easier to audit.
Gotcha: a neat grid does not prove that a logo is good, original, or optically balanced. The Arnell Group document for the 2008 Pepsi mark is the cautionary case: it justified a tilted globe with golden-ratio diagrams, magnetic fields, and gravitational pull, and none of that geometry made the mark more convincing to the people who saw it. Curves often need overshoot and hand correction, so forcing every point onto a perfect circle can make the finished mark look worse. Document the geometry that genuinely governs the drawing and leave optical corrections visible.
